This is what domestic abuse looks like. This is what coercive control looks like, it is subtle and can go unnoticed by the average person, it is relentless, rules keep changing, boundaries keep moving and there is never an end in site. It can escalate at an alarming rate and you can never really know where they will stop. They break you down and they block you at every turn.
Domestic abuse happens to vulnerable people of any gender. Where ever there is opportunity for a Narcissist or Sociopath they will take advantage be it to man, woman or child. And once they start they do not want to let go of the power they have, it is what makes them feel pleasure.
The trauma bond makes you blind to what is happening, you make excuses for their behavior. You believe that if you just do the right thing it will be ok. You feel like you are walking on egg shells trying to keep them happy, you are shut down when you speak about your feelings, they don’t want to know about how you feel, this is a domestic abuse situation.
I don’t think police want to deal with these types of people anymore than the victims do, there hands are tied as to what they can do. These people are difficult for everyone. Australian governments are currently looking at new laws to make coercive control a criminal act, enabling police to act on the known signs of domestic abuse, before it escalates. These laws have already been introduced in other countries.
